A Legacy of Islamic Reformation Since 1858
The Ahli Hadees Movement began in the late 19th century as a Puritanical Islamic reform movement dedicated to propagating the pure teachings of the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah.
Early Period (1858 A.D.): Founded by Moulana Sayyid Hussain Shah during Maharaja Ranbir Singh's rule. He boldly opposed un-Islamic practices and the prevailing "Pir-Mureedi" culture. Despite strong opposition and exile, his efforts ignited a movement for reform.
Early 20th Century: The movement gained momentum under the leadership of Moulana Mohammad Anwar Shopiyani.
1923 A.D.: The movement was formally named as Anjuman-e-Ahle Hadees Kashmir.
1940 A.D.: It was rechristened as Jamiat Ahle-Hadees Jammu & Kashmir.
1958 A.D.: Officially registered as a society on 20th September 1958 by the Government.
Today, Jamiat Ahli Hadees stands as the main Salafi organization in the region, headquartered at Jamiat Manzil, Barbar Shah, Srinagar, with millions of followers.
It operates hundreds of religious and formal educational institutions — including Al-Kulyat us Salafia Lil Baneen & Lil Banat, Markaz Ibn Masood, Markaz Aisha, Salafia Muslim Institute, and Tobiya Educational Institute.
Beyond religious education, Jamiat runs social welfare and medical programs such as the TMU Diagnostic Centre (main campus at Chota Bazar, Srinagar, with collection centres across the state). It has also established a Dialysis Centre on a no-profit, no-loss basis, serving people of all backgrounds equally.
"Eradicating polytheism (Shirk) and innovations (Bid'ah), influencing religious consciousness and inspiring a return to authentic Islamic faith."
